3D Modeling
This was my first major project completed in Maya. As you can see in the process section, I began with two introductory models as I began to learn the basics of 3D modeling. I then continued on to create this model of all thoracic and lumbar vertebrae, the sternum, and all 12 ribs. The geometry was completed in Maya and some light sculpting was added in Mudbox. The goal of this model is to show a viewer the articulation of the ribs with the sternum and with the thoracic vertebrae and overall how the vertebral column behaves in relation to the ribs.
Additional Anatomy Modeling
After completion of the above, full ribcage and vertebral column, I then modeled an additional anatomical element to add to the ribcage. I modeled the anatomy of the lungs and then positioned them in the ribcage in order to show how they fit within the cavity.
Process
I created a schematic representation of generic vertebrae as an introduction to 3D modeling assignment. All of the modeling was completed in Maya.
Before continuing on to model the entire ribcage, I began with a focus on the first rib and how it articulates with both the sternum and the T1 vertebra. The modeling was done primarily in Maya with final sculpting added in Mudbox.
